Barbara (Bobbie) Nelson, MA, LMFT, Lic. 33773
I received a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the Pacifica Graduate Institute in 1994. I have been in private practice for more than 20 years, preceded by a five-year internship at the Sonoma State University Counseling Center, the Marin Suicide Prevention Center, and the Santa Rosa based Drug Abuse Alternatives Center (DAAC). It was at the latter that I began facilitating interventions in addictive behaviors evolving into my own “Family Insight Training (FIT),” which has helped many families get the treatment they need to cope with and effectively treat addictive and other mental disorders in their family.
My goal is to help families, couples and individuals who are experiencing distress symptoms related to issues which may be rooted in the past, but which affect their relationships in the present. This includes the most important relationship of all; the one with yourself. I am the neutral party who can help you to see a broader vision of what is possible. You decide the direction the therapy will take and together we work out effective solutions and new behaviors. Together we tenderize the tough issues. I am a resource for programs offering residential treatment when more intensive work is necessary.
I use many orientations including, among others: Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Jungian, and Client Centered Therapy. Most of my sessions take place once a week in my office, but I am quite willing to work out bimonthly and even extended sessions once a month, as well as sessions by phone. I am interactive with my clients.
